FAQ

Real questions, honest answers.

The questions we hear before every first session — answered plainly.

The basics

What is Klayr, in plain terms?

Klayr is a desktop app that runs quietly in the background during your interviews. It watches your screen, listens for questions, and surfaces clear answers in real time — completely hidden from your interviewer. Think of it as a co-pilot: it's there when you need it and invisible when you don't.

Who is this for?

Klayr is for anyone going through job interviews — software engineers, product managers, data scientists, recent grads, experienced professionals, career changers. If you're facing a structured interview and you want to perform at your best, Klayr is for you.

What platforms does it run on?

Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows, and Linux. All three get the full feature set.

Do I need an account?

No account is needed for the free tier. Just download, set up your key, and go. An account is only required if you subscribe to a paid plan.

Can my interviewer detect it?

Can Klayr be seen during screen share?

No. Klayr uses an operating system feature that excludes its window from screen capture. Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Webex — none of them can see Klayr's window. Your interviewer sees a blank area where the window sits. This is the same technology streaming services use to protect video content from being recorded.

What if I accidentally alt-tab to Klayr?

Klayr only captures the window itself — if you switch to it, you'll see the Klayr interface, but your screen share won't show it. The exclusion applies to the window content, not your taskbar or dock icon. Keep the window positioned somewhere off to the side and you'll be fine.

Does Klayr appear in task managers or running processes?

It appears as a standard desktop application in your process list — the same as any other app you have open. There is nothing anomalous about how it appears to the operating system.

Does Klayr work with browser-based interview platforms?

Yes. Klayr detects questions via screen capture and audio — it works regardless of what platform your interviewer uses. HackerRank, CoderPad, Codility, Karat, interviewing.io, LeetCode, Zoom, Google Meet, Teams — all compatible.

Privacy & your data

Does Klayr record my interviews?

Klayr captures screen content and audio during active sessions to detect questions and generate answers. This all happens locally on your device. Nothing from your interview is sent to our servers. When you close a session, the processing stops.

What happens to my API keys?

Your API keys are stored on your device and never leave it. When Klayr uses them to generate an answer, the request goes directly from your machine to the AI provider — not through our servers. We have no visibility into your keys or your usage.

Can Klayr see my interview content?

No. All processing happens locally on your device. The only external requests are the AI calls that go directly from your machine to your chosen AI provider. Tattva Mind does not receive, store, or process your interview content.

Does Klayr have any analytics or telemetry?

No telemetry by default. We don't collect usage analytics or behavioral data. There is an optional crash reporting feature you can enable — it sends only anonymized error logs, never interview content or personal data.

Features

What is Race Mode?

Race Mode sends the same question to two AI providers simultaneously. Klayr streams whichever responds first and cancels the other. The result is consistently faster answers — roughly 40% faster at the worst case compared to using a single provider.

What are the six interview modes?

Software Engineer, Behavioral (HR), Coding & Algorithms, System Design, Data Science, and Product Manager. Each mode has a tailored approach — different depth, different vocabulary, different structure. Switch between them mid-interview without restarting.

Can I adjust or refine an answer?

Yes. Every answer has three refinement options: Rephrase (different angle), Expand (more depth and examples), and Shorter (tighter delivery). You can chain them — rephrase, then expand the rephrased version.

What is the code runner?

Klayr includes a built-in code execution environment. It supports Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, C++, Go, and Rust. If an AI answer contains code, one click pulls it into the runner — already set to the correct language. Run it and see the output without leaving Klayr.

What is Session Debrief?

After each session, Klayr reviews every question and answer from the session and generates a scored report with specific improvement notes. It's stored locally and exportable — a record of how you're improving over time.

Can I practice between interviews?

Yes. Practice Mode gives you 20+ curated questions per role to simulate real interview conditions. Use it to build confidence and get comfortable with Klayr before the real thing.

Getting set up

Do I need my own AI key?

For Credit Packs and the Lite subscription, yes — you bring your own key from an AI provider (Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic). The Pro subscription includes managed API access so you don't need to set one up. The free trial works without any key at all.

Which AI key should I get?

Google's Gemini offers a generous free tier — it's the easiest starting point and costs nothing to try. For higher quality answers on complex questions, OpenAI's GPT-4o or Anthropic's Claude are excellent options. Klayr works with any of them.

What are the minimum system requirements?

macOS 12 or later, Windows 10 (64-bit) or later, or Ubuntu 20.04 / Debian 11 or later. At least 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended). 500 MB disk space. Internet connection required for AI responses.

Why does macOS ask for screen recording permission?

Screen recording permission is what allows Klayr to see your screen and detect questions. It's requested once on first launch. Klayr only captures your screen during active sessions — never in the background when you're not in a session.

Pricing & billing

What does the free trial include?

One full hour of Klayr — no card, no key required. You get question detection, answer streaming, and content protection on a single monitor with the Software Engineer mode. Every premium feature unlocks after your first purchase.

What is the difference between a Credit Pack and a subscription?

Credit Packs are a one-time purchase — the time never expires and there's no monthly commitment. Subscriptions give you either unlimited sessions (Lite) or managed API access (Pro) on a monthly or annual basis. Credit Packs are great if you interview occasionally. Subscriptions are better if you're actively job hunting.

What counts as one credit?

1 credit = 30 minutes of active session time. Credits never expire. Buy once and use them across as many sessions as you need.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel from your dashboard at any time. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period. Your history, settings, and any unused credits are preserved.

What is the referral program?

Share your referral link from the dashboard. When a friend makes their first payment, you earn 20% of their order as wallet credit — applied instantly to your account and usable on any future purchase. No cap.
